The Director of Instruction will lead IDEA Public Schools to improve the level of instructional coaching and support provided to teachers across all College Prep campuses.  This district leader is charged with ensuring that school-based instructional leaders and district-based instructional coaches have the tools and skills to execute effective instructional coaching and curriculum implementation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Hire and manage centralized instructional coaches to provide in-the-field coaching/modeling to campus instructional leaders and direct coaching to teachers through individual meetings and Course Collaboration Sessions.
  2. Train all district and campus instructional coaches to provide effective data-driven coaching.  Training may include summer training, monthly whole-group trainings, and year-round individual mentorship to improve coaching practice.
  3. Collaborate with the Director of Secondary Program and the Secondary Academic Services Team to train and implement district-created curriculum and Teaching As Leadership tools.
  4. Create universal coaching standards as part of a coaching vision for the entire district and implement that vision through trainings and school visits.
  5. Attend and, at times, facilitate Secondary Program Meetings to ensure communication and collaboration with program team.
  6. Constantly identify and problem-solve issues affecting progress towards goals.
  7. Ensure productive collaboration with other HQ teams, in particular the data and assessment team.
  8. Seek out professional development and learning opportunities from outside of IDEA both for own role and for Secondary Instructional Coaches.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Teaching experience with a proven track record of success
  • Experience as an instructional coach
